Do You Know Harry Potter?
Harry Potter is not just the name of a young wizard but has also become the heart beat of millions of fans. Harry Potter is the lead character of a heptalogy written by British Author J. K. Rowling. After the release of the first book of the series in 1997, Harry Potter sought world recognition as a child hero.
In the series, Harry Potter was depicted as a young boy whose father – James Potter and mother – Lily Potter were murdered by the dark lord named as Lord Voldemort. Lord Voldemort was not just interested in conquering the wizarding world but also wanted to subjugate the muggle world (the world of readers). In his quest for glory, after murdering Harry Potter’s parents, Lord Voldemort cursed Harry Potter with the killing curse – Avada Kedavra. He did not realized that Harry Potter’s mother put a protection spell on Harry Potter which rebounded Lord Voldemort’s curse back at him.
The incident destroyed Lord Voldemort’s body, leaving him in the painful state in which he was neither dead nor alive. However, Harry Potter received a lightening bolt-shaped scar on Harry Potter’s forehead. Harry Potter became famous in the wizarding world as the only survivor of the deadly curse and was named “The boy who lived”.
After the cold-blooded murder of Harry Potter’s parents, Rubeus Hagrid, a half giant, on the orders of Albus Dumbledore, delivered Harry Potter to his only living relatives in the muggle world – the Dursleys. The Dursleys were unkind, mean and magic-phobic. They treated Harry Potter very badly for the next 11 years of Harry Potter’s life.
After 11 years, Harry Potter received a letter from “Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry”, revealing that Harry Potter was a wizard and selected to attend the school. Although Harry Potter was denied access to the letters, on his eleventh birthday, Rubeus Hagrid himself came to the family’s hiding place and told Harry Potter about everything.
Harry Potter showed his willingness to attend the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. The next seven years of Harry Potter’s life formed the base of the seven books of Harry Potter series – each year depicting one year in Harry Potter’s life. At school, Harry Potter learned magic and other related skills like making potions, herbology, riding the broomstick, magic-world’s creatures, transformation, etc.
Harry Potter series became the World’s largest selling book series. By June 2008, the seven book series has sold more than 400 million copies across the world, making J. K. Rowling, the richest story writer in the history. The Harry Potter series has also been translated in 67 different languages.
