Harry Potter and Some Magical Creatures


Harry Potter Series of fantasy novels is filled with a variety of creatures, plants and other objects with magical powers. All these creatures were the imaginative work of its author J. K. Rowling, who also wrote a separate book named “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” which contained a list of all these beasts. This short book was written by J. K. Rowling for a British charity.

Some of the most remarkable of these creatures can be discussed in this article. Most of the creatures discussed here also had an important role to play in the Harry Potter novels. Some of the creatures known as the mythical beasts were also incorporated by the author to make the reader at home with them.

The most notable creature of the Harry Potter heptalogy was probably Fawkes – the Phoenix. Fawkes played an important role and had a bit of sentience of his own as well as the loyalty and the healing powers. Dragons also played their part in the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter saw his first dragon Norbert, during his first year at Hogwarts in “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone”. Harry Potter also fought a fierce dragon in “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”.

Harry Potter novels also saw many hippogriffs as they frequently kept appearing. A hippogriff is known to be a cross between a griffin and a horse. A hippogriff had the body of the horse where as he had a head of an eagle and a powerful set of wings, enabling him to fly longer and higher. Another very important role was played by the giant spider, Aragog.

Many other magical creatures had brief appearances and less notable roles. These included knarls, kappas, unicorns, Cornish pixies, doxies, fire crabs. Common animals like cats, dogs, owls and toads were also frequent in Harry Potter series of novels, although most of them were not magical creatures.
