Harry Potter studio tour to open in spring 2012
Mark your calendars Harry Potter fans! It’s official — Warner Bros. has announced that their Harry Potter studio tour will open in spring of 2012 and visitors will be able to go behind the scenes of the most successful film franchise of all time to see how the magic was created.
The Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter will be located at Leavesden, the studio where all eight Harry Potter films were shot, and will showcase original sets, costumes and props, plus animatronics and special effects. Warner Bros. announced that the three-hour walking tour will allow fans to walk into Dumbledore’s office and experience the magic of the Great Hall, while other sets will be revealed at a later date.
The Great Hall at Hogwarts was created by the BAFTA and Oscar-winning production designer Stuart Craig for the first film, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Built in 2000, the majestic space is 120-feet long by 40-feet wide and includes the stone floor, and long tables and benches that we’ve seen our friends dine at so often in the films.
Dumbledore’s splendid office was created for the second film, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, and houses a library of magical and ancient books as well as Dumbledore’s desk, the Sorting Hat and the Sword of Gryffindor. Decorating the walls, fans can take a peek at paintings made especially for the film, including portraits of Richard Harris and Michael Gambon as the beloved Professor Dumbledore.
“While the Harry Potter film series reaches its highly anticipated conclusion this summer, its incredible filmmaking story and its relationship with Leavesden is set to live on with the launch of Warner Bros. Studio Tour London ––The Making of Harry Potter. The tour promises to be one of the most exciting and memorable visitor attractions anywhere in Europe, delivering an experience never before seen by the general public,” said Dan Dark, SVP & Managing Director, Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden.
Warner Bros. stated that more specifics will be announced later this year, including the on-sale date for tickets. But Harry Potter fans can register at the official Warner Bros. tour site and stay up to date with all the exciting details.
