Harry Potter Movie Series – Character’s Bio

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone:
The first year Harry is at Hogwart’s where he meets Ron and Hermione. Back story is that his parents were killed by Lord Voldemort when Voldemort attacked Harry as a baby. He has been living with his Aunt and Uncle that are Muggles.
Harry James Potter

The main character in the Harry Potter movies. An orphan raised by his Aunt and Uncle, except while studying at Hogwart’s School of Witchcraft and Wizardly. The movies cover seven years of his life. His mother and father were killed by Lord Voldemort and Harry is forever connected to Lord Voldemort. Since he himself is becoming a very powerful wizard as well.

Ron Weasley

The best friend to Harry and Hermione. He is from a pure blood family, the Weasley family. He is part of the Gryffindor house with Harry and Hermione. He is on most of the adventures with Harry because of their close friendship.

Hermione Granger

Another close friend of Harry’s, she is also a main character within the movies along with Ron. She is usually able to help Harry in some way with her knowledge and skill.

Albus Dumbledore

The headmaster at Hogwart’s School. He is also the founder and leader of the Order of the Phoenix, which fights Lord Voldemort. He is also someone that Harry goes to often and helps Harry as well. Many times he realizes what Harry must do before it actually happens. Within each movie, he tells Harry more about his parents and his connection to the dark arts and Lord Voldemort.

Rubeus Hagrid

He typically goes by Hagrid and he is half giant and Keeper of the Keys and Grounds, game keeper, and Care of the Magical Creatures. Later we find out that he is also part of the Order of the Phoenix.

Severus Snape

His character is one of the more mysterious and complex ones within the movie series. We will not know his full motivation or loyalties until the very last book/movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. He seems to treat Harry and his friends unfairly, while favoring the Slytherin students.

Minerva McGonagall

She is the Deputy Headmistress, head of Gryffindor house, the Transfiguration professor, and then later on she become the Headmistress of Hogwarts. She teaches one of the more dangerous magics at Hogwart’s, that being transfiguration. She is also a member of the Order of the Phoenix.

Draco Malfoy

Draco is part of the Slytherin house at Hogwart’s. He is the son of Lucius Malfoy and learns to use his magic to get what he wants. He and Harry and his friends do not get along and there are on going battles between them.

Professor Quirrell

At one time he was the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher when Harry first came to Hogwart’s. Underneath his turban on the back of his head is Voldemort’s face.

Vernon Dursley

Harry’s Uncle and married to Petunia Dursley. He is considered a Muggle and he does not like anything magical, this includes Harry. They are in charge of taking care of Harry since Harry’s parents were killed. However, himself, wife, and son care nothing for Harry.

Petunia Dursley

Harry’s Aunt and Vernon’s wife. Petunia is Harry’s mother’s sister. Harry’s mother was a Muggle born witch and Petunia was always jealous of her sister. Although their parents were happy to have a witch in the family.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets:
The second year at Hogwart’s. Harry finds out he is able to speak parseltongue and near the end of the year he and Ron find the entrance to the Chamber of Secrets. He battles a young Voldemort memory and at this time the Godric Gryffindor’s sword appears. Only a true Gryffindor would have the sword appear to them.
New Characters:

Gilderoy Lockhart

In Chamber of Secrets he becomes the new Defense of the Dark Arts teacher. He is a celebrity wizard, that has many books that are popular and likes to talk about himself. The staff at Hogwart’s does not like him and neither does Harry or Ron. His own memory is erased, when he tries to erase Harry and Ron’s. Lockhart is a fraud and never actually has gone on any great adventures.

Lucius Malfoy

The father of Draco Malfoy and he is also a Death Eater. He comes from a pure blood family and his family is pure blood as well. He was the school governor at Hogwart’s, was fired and now has connections to the Ministry of Magic. He is a minion of Voldemort’s.

Tom Marvolo Riddle (a young Lord Voldermort)

Tom Riddle is the teenage Voldemort, seen in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This is one of the first instances that we get to see Voldemort before his later transformation.

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban:
The third year at Hogwart’s and there is now a problem with Hogwart’s express. A Dementor attacks Harry and Sirius Black escapes Azkaban.
New Characters:

Sirius Black

Best friends with Harry’s father James Potter. He is from a pure blood family and later in the series is becomes the titular prisoner.

Peter Pettigrew

Peter began at Hogwart’s when Sirius, Remus, and James Potter did. They were all in Gryffindor together. Peter is a Death Eater as well and the only one from Gryffindor. His nickname is Wormtail because his other form is a rat. He is another minion of Voldemort and a spy within the Order of the Phoenix.

Sybill Trelawney

She is the professor of Divination at Hogwart’s. She is considered a fraud at the school as a Seer. She says her proof of her powers is that she can predict each year which student at the school will die.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire:
The fourth year at Hogwart’s and a new professor shows up named Alastor Moody. This year Hogwart’s is hosting the Triwizard Tournament between the three schools of magic. Harry’s name appears on the Goblet of Fire as well making him the fourth champion.
New Characters:

Lord Voldermort

Lord Voldemort killed Harry Potter’s parents and is trying to kill Harry as well. Because there is a prophecy that Harry can kill Voldemort. He is the most powerful and darkest wizard ever. He wants to take over the Wizarding world as well as the Muggle world.

Mad-Eye Moody

He is a teacher of the Defense of the Dark Arts at Hogwart’s. He is an ex Auror and by the end of the movie we find out that the real Moody has been stuffed and imprisoned in a trunk. Many of his body parts are missing because of his fights against dark wizards.

Cedric Diggory

He is part of Hufflepuff and is two years older than Harry. He is in the Quidditch house and the captain and seeker. His father is Amos Diggory who works at the Ministry of Magic. He is very fair, strong, and noble.

Rita Skeeter

She is a reporter that works at the Daily Prophet and Witch Weekly. She has such magic as Quick Quotes Quill and she is an Animagus that can turn into a beetle to spy on people.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix:
The fifth year at Hogwart’s and Harry is attacked again by Dementors and the Ministry of Magic does not believe that Lord Voldemort has returned.
New Characters:

Bellatrix Lestrange

She is the only female Death Eater thus far within the movies/books. She was beautiful, but her time in Azkaban has taken some of this from her. She is percieved as paranoid, unstable, and mad. However, she has great witch abilities and is actually smarter than the other Death Eaters.

Dolores Umbridge

Another Defense of the Dark Arts teacher, she was at Harry’s trial, but later we find out that she had the Dementors attack Harry.

-Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is slated for release in 2009. And Harry Potter Deathly Hollows Part 1 is slated for release in 2010 and Part 2 is slated for release in 2011.-
